Identity resolution

Identity resolution in Master Data Management (MDM) is the process of identifying and merging multiple records that refer to the same real-world entity, such as a customer, product, or vendor, within an organization’s master data repository. The goal of identity resolution in MDM is to ensure that there is a single, authoritative record for each entity in the repository, which can be used as a source of truth for reporting, analytics, and operational systems.

MDM solutions often employ various identity resolution techniques, such as probabilistic matching, deterministic matching, and manual reconciliation, to identify and merge duplicates in the master data repository. These techniques help to improve data quality and consistency, ensure data governance, and support data-driven decision-making by providing a complete, accurate, and up-to-date view of the organization’s master data.

It is the process of linking multiple records that refer to the same real-world entity (e.g., person, organization, device, etc.) across disparate data sources. The goal of identity resolution is to provide a unified view of an entity’s information by combining data from various sources into a single comprehensive record. This process helps to eliminate duplicates, improve data quality, and support advanced analytics and data management tasks. Identity resolution is commonly used in customer data management, fraud detection, and compliance management.
